Cash App Agrees to Pay Up to $2,500 to Users Over Data Breach: How to Claim Your Compensation

Cash App, one of the most popular payment apps in the United States, is facing a new settlement following a major data breach that exposed sensitive information of thousands of users. Its parent company, Block Inc., has agreed to pay compensation of up to $2,500 per person as part of a legal settlement aimed at resolving claims related to the incident.

What Happened?

In December 2021, a former Cash App employee improperly accessed internal systems after leaving the company, obtaining personal and financial information of more than 8 million customers. The compromised data included full names, brokerage account numbers, portfolio values, and transaction history.

Although the company stated that Social Security numbers, passwords, and login credentials were not exposed, the incident raised serious concerns about user data security and Cash App’s corporate responsibility.

What Does the Settlement Say?

The settlement does not include an admission of wrongdoing by Cash App, but it does provide compensation to affected users. Eligible individuals may receive up to $2,500, depending on the losses or damages suffered, including time spent addressing the impact of the breach or expenses related to potential fraud.

In addition, the agreement requires enhanced security measures within the platform, such as external audits and stricter protocols for handling sensitive data, to help prevent future breaches.

Who Is Eligible to File a Claim?

Anyone who was notified by Cash App Investing about the exposure of their data between December 2021 and April 2022 may be eligible to file a claim.

To apply, users must visit the official website of Kroll Settlement Administration (KSA), which is managing the process, and complete a claim form with basic information and supporting documentation, such as notification emails or proof of losses.

Deadline and Claims Process

The claims process is currently open, and the deadline to submit a claim is November 18, 2025.

Once submitted, KSA will review eligibility and determine the appropriate compensation amount. Payments will be issued either electronically or by check, depending on the claimant’s preference.

Impact and Context

This settlement adds to a growing list of class action cases involving major technology companies over failures to protect consumer data. The Cash App incident highlights the importance of cybersecurity in the digital financial ecosystem, especially as millions of people rely on mobile apps to manage their money.

Consumer protection experts recommend staying alert for suspicious emails, monitoring financial accounts closely, and considering credit monitoring services to detect any unusual activity.

Why Is It Important to File a Claim?

Beyond potential financial compensation, filing a claim helps reinforce corporate accountability for companies that handle sensitive financial information. Every claim submitted contributes to legal precedent demanding greater transparency and stronger security standards in the fintech industry.

If you were affected by the breach, visit the official KSA portal and submit your claim before the deadline. Recovering part of your losses is possible—but time is limited.
